India Register Record Fourth Successive Win

India won their first-ever Day-Night Test match by an innings and 46 runs  — their fourth successive innings win — a world record. Injured Mahmudullah did not take any further part and India needed only nine wickets to win the match and series. Umesh Yadav claimed the last wicket, that of Al-Amin, thus denying a 10-wicket haul to Ishant Sharma. But a fifer for Umesh. Skipper Virat Kohli scored his 27th Test ton.

After skittling out Bangladesh for 103 on the first day, India declared their first innings at 347 for nine. Then bowled out the visitors for 195 runs on Day 3 to register a massive win in the historic match. India had earlier won the first Test by an innings and 130 runs in Indore.

The change in playing conditions, how historic it may be — pink ball et al, hardly made a difference other than, of course, the attendance as India on the first two days of the match with India dictating the terms whenever they want.

Old war-horse Ishant Sharma tore through Bangladesh’s top order to leave the hosts closing in on a yet another series whitewash after skipper Virat Kohli struck his 27th century. India need just four wickets for 89 runs to wrap up a 2-0 series win, with the sorry Tigers 152/6 in their second innings.

If Bangladesh want to prolong the match against the best advice a lot will depend on how Mushfiqur Rahim shepherd the tail against a formidable Indian attack. India declared on 347/9 after dismissing the visitors for 106. And it’s going to be a two and half-day match, just like the Indore encounter.
